Industrial Revolution in Pakistan

Humans have waved their path from wearing leaves to putting on stitched dresses, living in caves to residing in smart homes, villas, mansions and crafting enormous skyscrapers, bartering to inventing coins for transaction of goods, and many more has changed from past years. Many civilizations before Christ like Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, took part in implementing advancements but publishing of scientific researches initiated from Greeks as Ancient Greek was the land which produced Nobles such as Plato, Aristotle, Pythagoras and many more. Afterwards, Islamic revolution appeared in which many surgical items, daily use chemicals, Mathematical Algorithms were introduced by nobles like Jabir bin Hayan, Abu Ali Sina, Abu Ali Hassan, Abu Al Qasim Al Zuhrawi, Abbas Ibn Firnas and many uncountable. According to many reports, this era is considered to be best for Muslims as they not only produced Great Militants, writers but great Scientists and Researchers too. Amicably speaking, Abbas Ibn Firnas' idea of human flying was the reason which motivated Wright Brothers to cruise in the sky, as Firnas is technically considered to be first human being to glide in the air. Ironically, this revolution couldn't continue for long and Islamic Empire across the globe begin to collapse miserably.

From 1750, 1st generation of Industrial revolution started. Before the start of 19th century, steam engine by Sir James watt, mechanized spinning of cotton in textile industry, machine tools, paper making by Nicolas Robert, gas lighting, alternating current induction motor by Nikola Tesla, steamships, and many more, were introduced. Furthermore, this era introduced industrial laws which benefited labors, investors, entrepreneurs. Many jaw breaking inventions and discoveries were done afterwards like invention of computers, Mobile phones, combustion engine automobiles. Meanwhile, we are residing in a time, where 4th generation of industrial revolution has come to be worked on. This includes many engrossing and fascinating fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Native Computing, Quantum Computing, 3D Printing Edge Computing, Virtual Reality, 5G Networking, Autonomous Driving, E-commerce, Online Transactions, Internet of Things, Blockchain, Electric Mobility etc. All these have immense scope and usage in near future. Few of them had not been touched yet nor these are available in our daily usage like Quantum computing, Edge Computing. We need at least a century to make them a daily usage product.

Approximately, whole world is striving for betterment including Pakistan. But to be honest, Pakistan's progress in industrial revolution is cosmically gradual. According to IMF and World Bank Pakistan's total GDP (nominal) is approximately 284 billion dollars in 2019 while Bangladesh managed to make a GDP (nominal) of 308 billion dollars, not to mention G20 Economies having their GDPs in trillions. Regrettably, Apple Inc (American Tech Giant) has the assets of almost 313 Billion Dollars and Apple made a revenue of 82 Billion Dollars in fiscal year 2019 whereas Pakistan's National budget was near to 60 Billion Dollars. Furthermore, Apple became the first ever company to get a valuation of whopping 2 trillion dollars. In today's world, Pakistan isn't even able to make a single bicycle by its own. There are a few manufacturers, but all those manufacturers aren't manufacturing anything locally, instead they are importing parts from China. Most of the Products like machinery sold in Pakistan are imported, resulting our GDP (purchasing power parity) to almost 1.2 trillion dollars. For that reason, Dollar fluctuation resulted in price hike of many products sold in Pakistan. Industries in Pakistan have no research labs nor safety standards. Negligible innovation and advancement. For instance, just have an insight to the case study of Automobile Industry in Pakistan. Toyota Indus is largest Automobile manufacturer in Pakistan, Indus motors never developed any vehicle for Pakistan Domestic Market while Toyota Kirloskar (India) developed Etios, Glanza specially for India Market. Swindling with Nationals of Pakistan, Toyota used to ensure that locally build vehicles are Completely Knocked Down (CKD) while dollar fluctuation portrayed the reality. In fact, most of the automobiles are 60% locally build while same vehicles in India, Thailand, Indonesia are 90% to 95% build locally. Pakistan's Information technology industry gained a revenue of less than 1 billion dollars in fiscal year 2019, though, in 2020, IT industry has gained 1.4 billion dollars in revenue till now. But the point is India made 84 billion dollars in fiscal year 2019, Singapore made more than 100 billion dollars. We aren't much frequent in advancements in Pakistan and that's why, struggle in the field of artificial intelligence, blockchain, cloud computing is very stunted. However, awareness is being spread and multiple learning platforms have emerged.

Pakistan having a population of 210 million people has a GDP (nominal) lower than UAE, Singapore, Malaysia, Israel. The reason, I mentioned these states is, these are too small in area, population as compared to Pakistan. To be fair, they aren't Aliens at all. They are just like us i.e. human beings. Problems we might be facing in our industrial growth are corruption, terrorism, lack of interest and negligent behavior. Our lack of interest and negligent behavior towards innovation and advancement is the main cause. Many around just want to live stone age life. Industrial growth can resolve various social and commercial complications.
